RJ Ravi — Retro Rickshaw
Every Sunday on Awaaz FM, I fire up the Retro Rickshaw and take you on a two-hour ride through the sounds that shaped a generation. Raised in Bengaluru and now based in Southampton, I started this show with one simple mission: to bring a little bit of South India into the mix and celebrate the music that most desi radio stations never play enough of. Retro Rickshaw is built on 90s Bollywood, the golden era of Indi-pop, and the remix culture that turned classic melodies into dancefloor anthems. But here is what makes it different. Alongside Hindi hits, I bring in tracks from Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi, languages I either speak fluently or love passionately enough to put on air. I speak Kannada, Marathi, Hindi, and English myself, and I believe great music does not need a translation, just a good speaker and an open mind.
This is my first time behind a radio mic, and I will be the first to tell you that. But passion and creativity sit at the heart of everything I do. By day, I work in digital marketing and graphic design. By night, I learn piano at a pace I would describe as "optimistically slow." Awaaz FM is my latest creative chapter, and I am treating every episode like it matters, because it does. Whether you grew up humming Bombay Vikings in your school corridor, discovered Nucleya through a friend's playlist, or simply want to hear a Kannada classic sandwiched between Hardy Sandhu and Coke Studio, Retro Rickshaw has a seat for you.
Tune in every Sunday between 2 pm and 4 pm. Bring your requests. Leave your expectations at the door.
